2008 SHOW DATES
RELEASED - EXHIBITOR REGISTRATION IS OPEN
The EXPO presents SPX is pleased to announce
the show dates for 2008 are Saturday October 4th and Sunday
October 5th. SPX 2008
will be held at the Marriott Bethesda North Hotel & Conference
Center. By popular demand, SPX 2008
is shifting its exhibition hours to a Saturday-and-Sunday
show. The show will be open to the public Saturday from 11:00
am to 7:00 pm and Sunday from noon to 6:00 pm.
"The show has grown over the years to the
point where we really need both days of the weekend to let
exhibitors sell their comics," said Executive Director Karon
Flage. "This makes it easier for attendees to come to the
show and see what all of our creators and publishers have
to offer."
Exhibitor registration is now open. Registration
forms and guidelines can be downloaded from this
site.
2007 IGNATZ RECIPIENTS
ANNOUNCED
 SPX 2007 hosted the eleventh annual presentation of the Ignatz Awards, a celebration of outstanding achievement in comics and cartooning. The Ignatz, named after George Herriman's brick-wielding mouse, recognizes exceptional work that challenges popular notions of what comics can achieve, both as an artform and as a means of personal expression.
The Ignatz Awards were be presented at the gala Ignatz Awards ceremony held on Saturday, October 13th, 2007 at 9:00 PM. Click here to view this year's results.

ADDS MATT WAGNER, JEFF SMITH AND KIM DEITCH AS GUESTS FOR
SPX 2007
Matt Wagner
is one of the pioneers of indie comics with his original creation
of “Grendel”, which celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year.
Matt also created, wrote and drew “Mage”, and has worked on
a number of projects for both DC and Vertigo. His next installment
of the Grendel saga, “Behold
The Devil” is due to be released this November from Dark Horse.
Jeff Smith
is the creator of the celebrated epic “Bone”, which has over
three million copies in print and is now available in Italian,
Spanish, German and many other foreign languages. Jeff recently
completed his critically acclaimed reworking of the Golden
Age hero Captain Marvel, “Shazaam! The Monster Society of
Evil” for DC Comics. He has recently been named by Fantagraphics
as the art designer in charge of the upcoming reprints of
Walt Kelly’s classic, “Pogo”.
Kim Deitch
will be at SPX to promote his well received latest graphic
novel, “Alias The Cat” from Pantheon Books. Kim is one of
the original “underground” cartoonists who redefined comics
in the 1960’s and has also worked in the field of animation.

BILL GRIFFITH, GILBERT HERNANDEZ AND RUTU MODAN ANNOUNCED
AS GUESTS FOR SPX 2007
 Bill
Griffith is known world wide for his syndicated
strip, Zippy The Pinhead, which runs daily in The Washington
Post. He has a new Zippy collection out from Fantagraphics
entitled “Zippy: Walk A Mile In MY Muu-Muu”. SPX is proud
to have him make one of his rare convention appearances at
this years show.
Gilbert Hernandez,
whose Love and Rockets is considered one of the groundbreaking
works in the history of comics, will be at SPX to promote
his first graphic novel in four years, “Chance in Hell” from
Fantagraphics.
Rutu Modan,
one of the founders of the Actus Tragicus comics collective,
will be at SPX with her first full length graphic novel, the
critically acclaimed “Exit Wounds”, from Drawn & Quarterly.

We are no longer taking exhibitors forms for
the wait list.
Exhibitors and attendees traveling to the
show, make your hotel reservations early to receive the reduced
rate.
SPX 2007 DATES

This year's show will be held on October 12th and 13th, 2007, at the Marriott Besthesda North Hotel and Conference Center.
Our first major guest is Jeff Smith, author/writer
of the groundbreaking and multiple award winning series Bone
as well as the upcoming Shazam: The Monster Society
of Evil.
More guests will be announced in the months
to come!
